Martin Lancaster House
Precedent Study
The Martin Lancaster House is a modern house with a traditional gable form. Its rugged character is express its use of exposed wood elements such as shingles heavy timber. The main part of the house (I.E. the living pavilion) has a light appearance and a double height open floor plan. The pavilions lightness can be attributed the curtain walls that wrap around the ground floor in-between the posts of a raised frame that is supported laterally between a large fireplace and a private service bar. This project informed me on the next project that came that semester; a boat building school in Brooklin, Maine that line the Martin Lancaster House is a "procession toward the sea"
