ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
Architectural Design, a two-semester course I completed during my second year at Vermont Tech, was one of the most enjoyable and memorable experiences I had from the fall semester of 2018 to spring 0f 2019. In this course, I composed sketches and scale drawings in multiple formats, built scale models, and discussed my compositions with clients. Please indulge in the sample compositions below.

Mountaineers Athletic Field
Montpelier, Vermont
The goal of this project was to add new services and amenities to the grandstand and dugouts of the Vermont Mountaineers Athletic Field while preserving the existing structures. The design economizes space by placing the restroom stalls under the grandstand and placing the sinks on the exterior under an awning. The new souvenir shop is also placed under the grandstand. Instead of demolishing the old dugouts, training rooms and an office for the umpires were added on to the back, preserving the rugged character of a beloved historic ballpark.

Common Space for Keenan Hall
Vermont Tech Campus in Randolph, Vermont
The goal of this project was to reimagine Keenan Hall, a dormitory on Vermont Tech's Randolph Campus with a double-height common space with improved accessibility to Keenan's front wings. The design adopts a brutalist aesthetic to complement the post-modernist vernacular aesthetic of the existing structure. What was once a ground floor common space is now a double-height space with a raised gallery and an elevator for improved accessibility to all three floors.

The Rebirth of Old Dorm
Vermont Tech Campus in Randolph, Vermont
Old Dorm over the years had increased occupancy density to the point where it was posing safety concerns in the event of a fire. The solution proposed was to remove an area where rooms had been added and restore the space back to its original configuration of a ball room and a performance stage while adding in a utility ramp that slides out from underneath the stage. These new restored spaces will improve quality of student life and activities as clubs will have a space for hosting events that increase social interactions.

Heaven for Chickens
Montpelier Public School in Montpelier, Vermont
Despite being my very first architecture project in my academic career, I was pleased with how this one turned out. An agriculture teacher from a school in Montpelier came to our studio to ask for our input on a new design for the school's chicken coop. Although no place can compensate for the chickens' sacrifice by slaughter, this design attempts to be a coop that is safe, pleasant, and dignified. The students at the Montpelier school cast a ballot to see which design the student body would like to see built. This design was voted top choice, which I think bears testimony to the love of the chickens.
